CHANGING the Power of Attorney in multiple cases

Here is a problem you should have: your busy client has just purchased a block of patents (say, 20), or wishes to move a block of cases to you.  You don’t want to have her sign 20 new powers.  What can you do?

The forms come to your rescue.  First, record the assignment; you can have all the patents and applications listed in an exhibit and you can list them all in a single on-line EPAS form (just keep hitting the add key). In about 5 days or so you should get the reel/frame number if you did everything right.  Have her execute one power of attorney on form SB/80 (or AIA/80 if the application was filed on or after September 16, 2012).  You fill out a separate Rule 3.73 Statement (form 96) for each case listing the reel/frame number of the recorded assignment, and if you have authority from the assignee you can sign, thereby saving the client a great deal of hassle, and confirming her choice of you as new counsel.  Then, you file the appropriate form 96 together with a copy of the executed form 80.
